Fan Suggestion: I would love to see an article discussing how you first got into fetish modeling when you were 18. I'd like to know how you felt, and what was going through your mind leading up to (and immediately after) the first fetish photoshoot you ever did as an adult.
I get the question all the time from my friends " How did you get into fetish modeling?" And I always have to answer with " You don't get into it as much as it gets into you." It's a private and mysterious industry that chooses you to join rather than you choosing to join it. I mean how many people say " I want to be a fetish model when I grow up?"
So how did all of this begin? Well I guess it would have to be when I decided to dress as Wonder Woman for a convention. I had planned to do a duet cosplay with my best friend as gender Ben versions of Professor Layton and Luke. We actually had a cute little idea of having Prof. Layton's belt buckle be a sliding puzzle for people to solve and we'd give out candy.
Three weeks before the con she bailed on me and I had to scramble to figure out another costume. I happen to be watching one of my friends playing Batman Arckum City when we started reminiscing about the Justice League when it hit me that I should cosplay as Wonder Woman.
So I attended the con and the cosplay got me a lot of attention in the cosplay world. I started to have
various photographers ask me to do simple photo shoots, some paid and some for free. I kept declining because at a young age my mother had instilled in me that any stranger who asks you to go somewhere is either a murderer or a rapist. Lol But one day on Deviantart I got a message from Shakeshift asking if I would be interested in paid modeling work. Normally I would have just said " Thank you, but no." But he happen to be the lucky number who made me think maybe I should try modeling and maybe these photographers are not all murderers and rapists.
Over the next 2 months he sent me samples of his work and explained to me what we would be doing. Talking to him on the phone I imagined him to look like George Lucas (I don't know why I guess he has the voice I imagine George Lucas to have), but I was very surprised to see he looks nothing like what I had imagined.
At first I was put off by the idea of doing fetish modeling, the idea of being spanked on camera and exposed was not a comfortable feeling. I told him I would only do very very shallow end of the fetish pool things, no working with other guys and no sexual content. Basically if anyone I knew saw it I couldn't get into trouble for it. He explained to me that everything would be pg13 and if anything else it's just bad theatre. He handled it all very professionally and if I were talking to any other photographer I may not have entered the industry.
The day of my first shoot was also the day I found out my roommate stole my panties and peed in them... But that's another blog.
So at our first shoot I brought my boyfriend along as a +1, I refused to work unless I had someone there who I knew would keep me safe. He sat on the steps and played video games while we shot, closely observing the whole time to make sure no funny business was going on. I remember telling Shakeshift about the YouTube video where the kid dresses up as Batman and tells his mom he wants Justice and a side of spaghetti for breakfast. Shakeshift laughed so hard that he spit his drink all over my boyfriends laptop. Needless to say my boyfriend was not too find of Shakeshift after that.
Once we wrapped up I asked Shakeshift how I did and he gave me a very vague answer basically saying we'll see how the sales go. I felt so worried like I didn't do well and I really thought that this was the first and last time I'd be hired. I was pleasantly surprised when he later contacted me saying the video sold amazingly well and hired me again. Which was great because I was (still am) a poor college student.
Each time we shoot I usually meet a new model and I always got super nervous that these ladies would think I'm a no good amature. But every model I have met has been openly kind and welcoming. I can't say that I've worked with a model I have not liked. I feel a sister hood connection to these girls some of which I believe I will be life long friends with.
And that is what I love most about this industry, there is an invisible connection between the models that places you into a group where you feel safe and even if you do not know them well you know they have your back. I have created relationships with these girls and even with producers like Shakeshift, Vesta, and Mike that I WILL NOT ever be able to have with anyone else.
